After entering the era of science and technology, although the rapid development of science and technology has brought earth shaking changes to people’s lives and made a qualitative leap in human civilization, the rapid development of industry has also brought constant damage to the earth’s ecology.
Environmental problems have become the most troublesome problem for human beings. If the ecological deterioration is not effectively controlled, the earth’s ecology may collapse in a few hundred years, and human beings will lose the earth, which has lived for millions of years. In many environmental pollution, white pollution is the most easily ignored one.
The so-called white pollution is actually plastic pollution. With the continuous improvement of human living standards, the use of plastic is more and more frequent. Many products are packaged with plastic. Even when we go shopping in supermarkets, we end up packing all kinds of plastic bags. Therefore, in our daily life, we can see all kinds of plastic products everywhere.
Because plastics are hard to degrade, there are too many of them, so a lot of plastics can’t be recycled, they are basically scattered everywhere. Many people may think that these white plastics appear on the land and pollute the land environment, but in fact, a large number of plastics have been injected into the ocean and are constantly polluting the ocean.
Many people may have heard of “Pacific garbage island”. It is an area between California and Hawaii. This area has been completely covered by all kinds of garbage. The main garbage is plastic, and its area is equivalent to two Texas states. The reason for the formation of such a huge garbage island in the Pacific Ocean is mainly due to the action of ocean currents, where marine garbage from all over the world converges to form.
In addition to the plastic waste we see on the surface of the ocean, there are plastic waste in different depths of the ocean. Even the deepest Mariana Trench in the world has plastic waste on the bottom. It can be seen that the pollution of plastic waste in the ocean has formed different depths and is becoming more and more serious.
Some people may say, what does it have to do with us if there is more plastic waste in the ocean? Can it form a threat to mankind? It is estimated that many people don’t pay much attention to the harm of white plastic pollution. However, a lot of studies by scientists often find that human beings may eat plastic every day. What’s the matter?
As we all know, plastic is a kind of material that is difficult to degrade. If it enters the human body, it will affect our health. Maybe someone will say, we are not stupid, how can we take the initiative to eat plastic. But we can avoid taking the initiative to eat plastic, but it is difficult to avoid passive eating plastic. What’s the matter?
I believe many people like to eat seafood, especially from the wild sea. When we eat these wild fish, we naturally can’t see the plastic ingredients in them. But in fact, due to the continuous pollution of the ocean by plastic, many fish eat plastic into their stomachs. When these plastics enter the stomach of fish, it is difficult to completely decompose and digest them. They will be hidden in the form of plastic particles. Naturally, we can’t see these tiny plastics with naked eyes, so we will eat them into the stomach.
In fact, in the plastic pollution, the visible plastic waste will not cause great harm to the human body, because we can see them and naturally will not take the initiative to eat plastic. But there is an invisible micro plastic, which can be seen everywhere in our daily life. They are the real threat to human beings.
Microplastics refer to plastic fragments and particles less than 5mm in diameter. In fact, the particle size of microplastics ranges from a few microns to a few millimeters. It is a mixture of heterogeneous plastic particles with various shapes, which is often difficult to distinguish by naked eyes. It is vividly called “PM2.5 in the sea”. Compared with the “white pollution” plastics, the harm of micro plastics lies in its small particle diameter, which is the reason why it is more harmful to the environment than the general non degradable plastics.
The sources of microplastics are very wide, such as the small pieces falling off from all kinds of plastic articles, the plastic beads developed from facial cleanser and frosting paste, etc. Generally speaking, all kinds of plastics, such as polyethylene and polystyrene, have been widely used in our life. These compounds are exposed to the wind and sun in the natural environment. Although they cannot be completely degraded, they are gradually becoming smaller and smaller than the particles.
In addition, the cosmetics or cleaning products we use contain a large number of abrasive particles. These particles are small in size and float on the water surface. The urban sewage treatment plant can’t treat them at all, so they can’t decompose and leave the sewage treatment plant freely.
It can be seen that the microplastics are too small to be seen by naked eyes, and it is difficult to completely remove them in current garbage disposal, so microplastics flow into the ocean in large quantities through various ways. They can be found everywhere in the ocean, with the highest concentration in the coastal beaches of South Africa, the Great Lakes of North America, the rivers of Britain, and the bottom of the trench near Russia.
Unlike the visible plastic waste floating on the sea, micro plastic is invisible to the naked eye. As long as there is micro plastic in the sea area, the marine organisms will have micro plastic in it. So now many fish in the ocean, which look clean, have been polluted by micro plastics. If we eat this kind of ocean, naturally there will be plastic into the human body.
According to the current conservative statistics, there are nearly five trillion pieces of micro plastics floating in the world’s oceans. They increase microbial pollution, which accumulates in the food chain and is ingested by a variety of marine wildlife. When we eat seafood containing microfiber, it enters our bodies. It’s a health threat.
I believe after reading these, we all understand that micro plastics are everywhere. The wild ocean we often eat may be polluted by micro plastics. Although it will not bring great impact on our health, over time, when they accumulate in the human body to a certain extent, they may bring us great harm.
Therefore, we should eat less wild seafood. Scientists speculate that the outbreak of the new coronavirus in the world may come from wild animals. It can be seen that wild animals, whether land or sea, may bring harm to human health. We should take good care of nature, protect wild animals and eat more healthy artificial seafood.
Of course, it is more important to be able to remove these plastic wastes, especially micro plastics. However, with the current technology of human beings, the complete cleaning of micro plastics can not be done. It is believed that with the continuous progress of human science and technology, the future garbage disposal technology will be more and more advanced. One day, when we can completely clean up the micro plastics, we can eat wild seafood with confidence.
