How will human beings travel to Mars in the future? Scientist: maybe you need to lie down

With the help of science and technology, exploring life and finding a new planet suitable for human survival have become the two most important plans and tasks. However, with the rapid development of human science and technology, we will not be able to go out of the solar system to explore extrasolar planets for a long time to come.

Limited by science and technology, scientists can only focus on the solar system, and the solar system in addition to the earth is a natural planet, there is no second natural planet suitable for human survival. If we want to immigrate to other planets in the future, we can only remodel the selected planet, and the planet with hope of success is Mars chosen by scientists.

Mars, like the earth, is also a planet in the habitable zone. Although Venus is also a planet in the habitable zone, its environment is very bad. At first, scientists also regarded Venus as a target planet for transformation, but later the exploration found that the surface environment of Venus was too bad to detect and transform. So scientists set their eyes on Mars.

Although the environment of Mars is not very good, it is very good compared with Venus. What’s more important is that the rover can land on Mars for long-term exploration. Through decades of exploration and Research on Mars, scientists have a rich understanding of Mars, and the next step is to land a man on Mars. In the future, Mars may become an important travel planet for human beings, and Mars travel will no longer be a dream.

So how will humans travel to Mars in the future? Scientists say: it may be necessary to hide. What’s the matter? Some people may have some misunderstandings about the word “hiding”. In fact, this is the most important way of human space navigation in the future.

I believe friends all know that the space environment is totally different from the earth. Life on earth develops under the influence of gravity. Once human beings leave the earth, the consequences of the disappearance of gravity will emerge in endlessly. Without gravity pushing the blood to the legs, the astronaut’s head would be filled with fluid, causing the head to weigh heavily and feel like a cold all the time, accompanied by muscle and bone wear.

Astronauts perform short-term missions in space. After returning to earth, they need to rest for a long time before they can enter space again. Yang Liwei, the first person in China’s space industry, has never been in space since he went to space. The reason is that the space environment has a great impact on the body. Short term space stay can have a greater impact on the human body, and from earth to Mars, it will take at least half a year to reach.

Half a year of space flight, in the end what kind of impact on astronauts, scientists have been actively exploring the focus of research. Only after this problem has been solved and technologies and methods to ensure the safety of astronauts have been developed, can we actually land on Mars. Otherwise, even if the space technology conditions are met, we will not be able to travel to Mars.

Maybe some people watch some science fiction movies, in which people in the spaceship can move freely and travel in space for a long time. The reason for this is that the spaceship in science fiction movies is very advanced. It not only has a power system beyond our imagination, but also can fly at the speed of light and beyond the speed of light. What’s more, the spaceship has a simulated gravity system. People stay in the spaceship just like they are on the earth. They will not be affected by microgravity and can move freely in the spaceship.

However, such a powerful space technology in science fiction movies is too far away for human beings. There is no simulated gravity system in our spaceship, which is in a microgravity environment, and the impact of this environment on the human body is relatively large. Therefore, in the future, when humans travel to Mars, they will certainly not be able to move freely in the spaceship like in science fiction movies, and will not be affected by gravity at all.

So what should the personnel in the spacecraft do with the future space travel of mankind? Scientists have already told us the answer: to avoid going. I believe everyone has experienced dizziness, nausea and cold. At this time, we need to rest in bed. After lying down, dizziness and nausea will be greatly improved. In fact, the blood pressure and blood flow in the human body have reached a balance, and the impact on the brain has become smaller. Naturally, we will feel much more comfortable.

Astronauts from the earth to space, it is basically to lie down, the reason is to offset the impact of blood pressure on the brain. But if you need to lie down all the way to Mars, and stay in bed for half a year or so in microgravity environment, what kind of impact will it have on the astronauts, you still need to carry out various experiments.

In Cologne, Germany, 12 volunteers will lie down for 60 days in a research experiment simulating the microgravity environment in space to study the bone and muscle degradation of astronauts. They will not only create a history of aerospace research, but also receive a reward of 16500 euros.

A 110 square meter room is used to study the effects of oxygen reduction and environmental stress reduction; a room is used to simulate psychological stress and psychological rehabilitation, because living in a small space with limited social activities will lead to psychological stress; and a laboratory is used to study the radiation effects of space. The laboratory of the Institute looks like a huge white Lego building on the outside, and the internal environment is similar to the space station. It is a 3500 square meter space without windows.

Scientists say: living in space for more than thousands of people will have an impact on health, and Mars travel can take at least six months. If the round trip is included, it will take at least one year. Such a long time is bound to bring unknown effects on the physical and mental health of astronauts. We must know these effects in advance, and then conduct research on these effects to find more advanced methods to offset these effects.

The experiment, called artificial gravity bed rest study, was conducted in two batches. The first batch of participants started on March 25, 2019, and the second batch started in early September and ended in December. Strictly speaking, the experiment lasted a total of 89 days, with 15 days of familiarization, 60 days of bed rest, two weeks of rest and rehabilitation, and four follow-up visits in 2020 and 2021.

During the experiment, volunteers had to keep at least one shoulder in contact with the mattress at all times. At the same time, in order to simulate the environment of the international space station, the carbon dioxide in the room increased slightly. Every day, physiotherapists stretch and massage them, and then doctors take their blood pressure and urine samples, perform blood analysis and cognitive, hearing and vision tests, as well as MRI to measure their muscle growth and weakness, and X-ray to check their bone mineral density. Training courses and cardiovascular function measurements should alternate with strict calorie based diet adjustments to prevent volunteers from gaining or losing weight during the study.

In space, the most common activities become complicated. Volunteers were not allowed to eat or defecate by leaning or sitting. When they want to take a bath, they can lie in a specially installed room. Every day they also experience a centrifugal experience, circling around a circular room for 30 minutes, like riding a merry go round.

Another challenge for volunteers is to overcome boredom. When they are in bed, they can only watch books or TV movies, and occasionally chat with family and friends. So researchers sometimes invite astronauts to visit them and tell them about their space experiences.

So what happens to these researchers when the 60 day experiment is over? The results showed that most of the participants were difficult to return to normal walking. After lying at a 6-degree angle for 60 days, they lost their balance and coordination ability. They were dizzy and had to take time to adapt to normal life.

Thus, it can be seen that the space technology of mankind now is a great challenge to complete the Mars journey. This challenge does not mean that the spacecraft can not successfully land on Mars. As a matter of fact, with the development of space technology, the spacecraft has been able to safely land on Mars with a very high success rate, so manned landing on Mars should not be a big problem.

In the journey to Mars, what we really need to overcome is the various effects of space microgravity environment on our body. If we can’t solve this problem, we can’t travel to Mars. And now the results of the earth Microgravity Laboratory also show that human beings do not have the conditions to travel to Mars. And the earth’s microgravity environment has not considered a more important factor in space: radiation.

If the space radiation is also taken into account, the physical and mental damage caused by more than half a year’s travel to Mars may be greater. Of course, as long as we find these problems, we can solve them in a targeted way. As long as these problems are solved, Mars travel can be realized, and people who participate in Mars travel will not be affected seriously after they arrive.

Of course, with the continuous development of human science and technology, human space travel will not always be carried out in this way of lying forward. After human beings have mastered the simulated gravity technology in the future, we will not need to lie forward for a long time, only in the long interstellar travel. With the rapid development of science and technology, the speed of spacecraft will continue to improve in the future. It will take about half a year to reach Mars now, and it may take only a few days or even hours in the future.

The future development of human beings is in space. The solar system can’t restrain human’s steps. We will go out of the solar system and enter the interstellar space to explore the whole galaxy and even the whole universe. Human’s steps will also spread all over the galaxy and every corner of the universe. We are looking forward to that day.
