Huge lakes have been found on Mars, covering an area of 600 square kilometers. The water quality is different from that of the earth

When the probe arrived on Mars, its first impression was desolation. The whole surface looked similar to the desert environment of the earth, with almost no trace of liquid water. So Mars really doesn’t have water? This is very important for human beings. Scientists expect Mars to become a second home for human beings.

If Mars doesn’t have liquid water, the dream of a new home might be shattered. Water is not only the source of life, but also necessary for human survival. Whether it is to transform the Martian environment or human survival on Mars, it needs the support of water resources. If Mars does not have water, it is difficult for us to transform Mars into a livable planet suitable for human survival.

So is there water on Mars? After continuous exploration by the probe, it is found that although there is almost no trace of liquid water on the surface of Mars, there are cold and hard ice sheets in the polar regions, and there is liquid water under these ice sheets. As early as 2018, European and American scientists discovered that there were liquid lakes on the ground or under the ice sheet in some parts of Mars through astronomical instruments.

Among them, three lakes are relatively large. The largest one has a diameter of 30 kilometers and an area of more than 600 square kilometers. The area of such a Martian lake is almost as large as that of Dongping Lake, which is a huge discovery. It can also be seen that although Mars is desolate, there are still many water resources.

Some people may have said that the temperature of Mars’ poles is 100 degrees below zero, does water energy remain liquid? At the beginning, scientists did not believe that there would be liquid water resources at the poles of Mars. It was too cold there, but the observation results of the probe did find liquid lakes. What’s the matter?

Being able to keep liquid in a low temperature environment indicates that the water quality of this kind of liquid water is very different from that of the earth. Scientists believe that the liquid water in Martian lakes should be brine with very high salinity. Only when the salt content is very high, can it keep liquid in a low temperature environment.

This kind of high salt brine can’t be used and drunk directly. If we want to use these liquid water on Mars, we need to refine them by heating and evaporation. We can refine the salt and get pure water for our use. In any case, to be able to find such a large area of liquid lakes at the poles of Mars is undoubtedly great good news for mankind.

So will there be life in the salt water? Theoretically, the possibility of life is very small, but we can’t completely rule it out. We should know that some anaerobic bacteria can survive in such an environment. This may be a good place for scientists to search for life on Mars. However, it is very difficult for human probes to land at the poles of Mars, and the current technology can not do so.

Therefore, the lakes at the poles of Mars can only be observed by orbiting probes, only a number of liquid lakes have been found here, and the specific situation is still unknown. It is not a definite answer that these liquid lakes are of high salt water quality. They exist under the ice sheet. Maybe there is another possibility.

If there is volcanic activity at the poles of Mars, the temperature of volcanic activity will melt the ice above and form liquid lakes under the ice sheet. If this is the case, then these liquid lakes are fresh water. Which is the truth? Scientists need more exploration and research. The best way is to go to the poles of Mars and collect water resources in lakes for analysis. Then we can get the answer.

Through more and more explorations on Mars, we find that Mars is not as simple as we thought in the past. It is possible that the first discovery of extraterrestrial life by human beings will be on Mars. And more and more evidence also shows that Mars is not as desolate as we think, and its hope of becoming the second home of mankind is greater and greater.
