Japan’s Meteorological Observatory again suggested that the northern hemisphere will experience La Nina, and China may face the coldest winter

According to astronomers’ prediction, the winter of 2020 may be a very cold winter for human beings, because of La Nina phenomenon.

What is La Nina

La Nina phenomenon refers to the sudden abnormal cooling of sea water in the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean. At that time, the southeast trade wind was relatively strong, and the specific heat capacity of the sea water was higher, which was blown to the west of the Pacific Ocean. As a result, the sea level in the West was higher than that in the East, and the temperature in the west of the Pacific Ocean was also higher. Because of the difference between cold and heat, the sea water continued to flood, bringing a lot of cold air.

So if there is La Nina, it means that there may be a very cold winter here.


In 2020, the Japan Meteorological Administration announced publicly in October that the La Nina phenomenon has now taken shape, and there is a 90% probability that it will change the winter in the northern hemisphere, so it means that the La Nina phenomenon will lead to a very cold winter in China in 2020.

In 2019, China’s winter is a warm winter, and the reason for this phenomenon is all due to El Nino. At the same time, the flood disaster in southern China in 2020 is also due to the impact of El Nino.

El Nino and La Nina, on the contrary, refer to the high temperature of the Pacific Ocean, which affects the climate and causes warm winter.

Extreme climate anomalies?

Many people may wonder why El Nino and La Nina phenomena appear alternately. Is it true that human beings are going to die? In fact, this is a very normal phenomenon. After all, in recent decades, with the increasing greenhouse effect and the increasing temperature of the earth, the occurrence of La Nina is less and less. Normally speaking, the occurrence frequency of La Nina should be every two to seven years, but from 2001 to now, according to the forecast of the National Meteorological Administration, La Nina has only occurred five times.


In recent years, the largest range and the most powerful cold air should be the heavy snow in southern China in 2008, a large part of which is caused by La Nina.

Snowflakes floating on national day, north wind blowing?

According to the report of the State Meteorological Administration, snowflakes have appeared in Henan and Inner Mongolia during the national day. Is it because of the influence of nanila? At the same time, in the middle of October, Harbin City in Heilongjiang Province also had snowfall. It can be seen that the snowfall time in most areas of the north this year is about one month earlier than before. Does this have anything to do with La Nina?

Actually, it’s not. According to the staff and the person in charge of the Meteorological Bureau, in the north of China, it’s quite normal to snow in October. The snow in many places on China’s national day this year is mainly due to the abnormal atmospheric circulation, which is not so closely related to the La Nina phenomenon.


Therefore, it is not only La Nina phenomenon that causes snow disaster or rapid cooling. After all, the weather is also determined by ocean current, monsoon circulation and many other factors. At the same time, in the meteorological system, any small factor change, like the butterfly effect, will have a great impact on the whole.

From this, we can see that everything in the world is related. At the level of the meteorological system, its complexity is difficult for human beings to fully explore. Human beings have original data, but it will also bring different weather because of minor differences.

Although La Nina phenomenon exists, it will also lead to the decrease of temperature in the northern hemisphere, but in addition, other factors that affect the temperature should be considered. Therefore, according to the available data, it can only be said that there may be a cold winter this year, but it is not absolute.
