Scientists have discovered 20 new moons. Saturn has 82, surpassing Jupiter

There are eight planets in the solar system and three in the habitable zone. Only the earth is a beautiful planet of life. Generally speaking, due to the planet’s large mass and strong gravity, there will always be a number of satellites around it. For example, the earth has a natural moon.

So are all the eight planets in the solar system accompanied by Jupiter? Of course not. Two of the eight planets don’t have any satellites. They are Mercury and Venus. But last year, scientists discovered 20 new moons near Saturn through the Subaru Telescope. Since then, the number of Saturn’s moons has increased to 82, surpassing Jupiter and winning the most number of moons in the solar system. Up to 20 new moons of Saturn can be found this time. Through their unremitting observation efforts, they finally changed Saturn and made it surpass Jupiter in the number of moons.

You should know that in the solar system, Jupiter and Saturn are neighbors. There are differences in diameter and mass between them. Jupiter has the upper hand in both volume and mass, and has won the position of the number one planet in the solar system. And Saturn can only be subordinate to the second, for Saturn, the name of the second is not very beautiful.

The spectacular rings have successfully attracted the attention of human beings. Scientists have been actively studying and exploring the rings of Saturn, hoping to find some mysteries. The moons of Jupiter and Saturn naturally attract the attention of scientists. Especially in recent years, with the continuous improvement of observation technology, scientists have found that some moons of Jupiter and Saturn are very mysterious. They may exist in subglacial oceans, in which there may be life.

It is because of scientists’ constant attention to Jupiter and Saturn’s moons that scientists have the opportunity to observe more of Saturn’s moons. We should know that the diameter of these 20 newly discovered moons is only about 5 km. Such a volume is very small for satellites. If it is not for long-term continuous special observation, it is very difficult to find them.

Of the 20 new satellites, 17 are going in reverse direction, opposite to the rotation direction of Saturn, and one of the retrograde satellites is the farthest satellite known from Saturn. Now the team has classified the 20 newly discovered satellites into three groups according to their rotation angles, the retrograde satellites into the Norse group, and the other satellites into the Gallic and Inuit groups. These three groups are named after Nordic mythology, gallic mythology and Inuit mythology.

So how did these smaller new moons of Saturn come from? After research, scientists believe that they may be split by a relatively large satellite, and the force that can split a large satellite is probably the impact between celestial bodies. It is possible that a larger satellite collides with an asteroid or comet, resulting in the splitting of a large satellite into several smaller satellites.

. To scientists’ surprise, however, one of the newly discovered satellites orbits much farther than other satellites, which indicates that there may be some force pulling it outwards. Maybe it didn’t come from the disintegration of a larger satellite. It’s a surprise for scientists to find 20 new moons at once, and it’s also a very proud thing for Saturn.

Since then, Saturn has surpassed Jupiter in the number of moons, which is a matter of pride. Although Saturn is second only in mass, it has the largest number of moons in the solar system, and it has a beautiful and spectacular ring. In these two ways, it is stronger than Jupiter and more attractive to scientists.

And one of Saturn’s moons is very mysterious, which is Titan. It is the largest moon of Saturn, and the only celestial body with atmosphere, lake and sea and rain besides the earth. We know that this situation shows that Titan has its own perfect ecosystem, and a planet with perfect ecosystem often means that there may be life.

When scientists observed Titan, they were very excited to know that there might be life on such an ecological planet. However, scientists found that Titan is very different from the earth’s ecology through observation. You should know that Titan is very cold. In such a cold area, there can be liquid lakes and rain, indicating that the composition of these liquid substances is not water.

After the observation of the detector, Titan is a world of methane, where the main component of the atmosphere is methane. Due to the low temperature, these methane gases fall to the ground in the form of rain, forming a lake ocean. Although Titan’s ecosystem is very different from that of the earth, don’t forget that methane is also an organic matter and a necessity for the birth of life.

It is possible that special life was born under Titan’s special ecosystem. They live on methane, just like human beings cannot live without water. Of course, to understand the situation of Titan, scientists need to send probes to land in the future.

It can be seen that Saturn and its moons may be more and more concerned by scientists in the future. The reason why we don’t spend a lot of energy on exploration now is that our space technology is still relatively backward, and we don’t have strong power to freely enter these satellites.
