Because Jupiter is a gas giant planet, the thickness of its atmosphere is far beyond our imagination, so we can’t go deep into the interior of Jupiter for exploration with the current human technology.
Juno’s probe to Jupiter is mainly for every low altitude crossing, so that it can catch some information of Jupiter’s atmosphere at close range. On October 29, 2018, the spacecraft made its 16th low altitude crossing to Jupiter. This time, Juno captured incredible images of several oval white spots in the temperate zone near 40 degrees north latitude of Jupiter, which are spinning in the opposite direction of a normal storm. NASA calls these white spots “longan”. So what are these huge oval white dots?
Scientists also don’t know what these huge elliptical white dots are, or why these counter rotating cyclones on Jupiter are different in color from other forward rotating cyclones. So we need to explore Jupiter further. Juno has been working on Jupiter for more than two years, and has already photographed many spectacular scenes about Jupiter. And the mystery of Jupiter may be beyond the original scientists’ expectation.
How thick is Jupiter’s atmosphere and what’s going on inside Jupiter? Is there a land surface like the earth? These are still unsolvable mysteries. The exploration of Jupiter is relatively difficult. Unlike Mars, it can directly land on the surface for exploration. Today’s human probes can’t go deep into Jupiter’s atmosphere, so they can only observe in low altitude orbit.
However, with the rapid development of human science and technology, the future exploration spacecraft will be more advanced. I believe that one day, we will be able to enter the interior of Jupiter to see what kind of scene is beyond Jupiter’s thick atmosphere. Many scientists believe that although Jupiter is a gas giant with a very thick atmospheric cover, there may also be land inside Jupiter. Scientists have proved that there will probably be liquid ocean inside several moons of Jupiter, and there is a great possibility that the ocean represents the existence of life. And as the main star of Jupiter, will there be liquid ocean inside? Because Jupiter is so huge and has such a thick atmosphere, its internal temperature may not be very cold. It may be a warm environment.
However, another major problem for Jupiter is that it has suffered a lot of asteroid impacts. If Jupiter has a land surface, it is unknown whether it has been severely damaged by asteroid impacts. If you want to solve all these mysteries, you have to go through Jupiter’s atmosphere to get inside.
