The buoyancy of liquid methane is very small. For example, when we swim on the sea, we can easily float up, but on Titan, even if we use some floating devices, we will immediately sink into the bottom of the sea. So, although we found a planet with a thick atmosphere and a liquid ocean, such a planet is a forbidden area for human beings.
Is there life on the surface of Titan? Scientists think that the possibility is very high. We should know that methane is also an organic matter, which is also rich in carbon, and life on earth is carbon based life. If there is life on the surface of Titan, such life, in essence, should be the same as life on earth, which is carbon based.
However, even if they are carbon based life, their life forms will be very different. If there is life on Titan, the material they rely on for survival may be rich methane. This life form may be beyond our part of cognition.
Of course, whether there is life on Titan is still speculation. We have no ability to actually land on the surface of Titan. Although Titan is not a purgatory planet like Venus, it may be no less difficult to detect it than Venus. In particular, it may be more difficult to detect the ocean of liquid methane on Titan’s surface.
If life exists on Titan’s surface, its rich liquid ocean may be the main place to live. Only when we go deep into the methane ocean can we find some special life. Of course, for humans, we expect life on Titan, and we don’t expect life. You know, methane is a good source of energy. The reserves of methane on earth are limited.
If we can transport the liquid methane from Titan back to earth, it will be great good news for human beings. The abundant methane resources on Titan can meet the needs of human beings for a very long time. But if there is special life in Titan’s methane ocean, it will be more difficult for us to exploit methane resources in the future.
