Using these three methods to search for aliens, it may be easier to find extraterrestrial intelligent life

With the rapid development of modern science and technology, more and more people begin to explore the concept of rapid evolution of artificial intelligence. Shostak said that some experts believe that intelligent extraterrestrial life may hinder us from discovering their existence.

Shostak said, however, that the first question people are likely to talk about is why humans are so obsessed with alien life, especially alien invaders. People’s high attention to the unseen threat to extraterrestrial life may be a reflection of the fear of human beings in ancient times. At that time, early humans knew that the survival of life needed a sense of crisis, needed to consider the potential predators that you could not see, and did a good job of defense against the attack of predatory animals. At present, we know that the universe is unlikely to exist only on earth, the only kind of higher intelligent life of human beings.

In the past 20 years, astronomers have found a large number of planets in the universe. On June 19, NASA announced that 219 exoplanets have been discovered by the Kepler space telescope mission, thus expanding the total number of exoplanets discovered by the Kepler space telescope to 4034.

Shostak stressed that it is estimated that 70-80% of the stars may have planets, and the Milky way is estimated to have 100 billion stars, so there may be 1 trillion planets in the Milky Way alone. Kepler data show that about one-fifth of the planets are earth like. These rocky planets have the ability to support liquid water and potential life forms. It is likely that there are 100 billion earth like planets in the galaxy.

At the same time, recent studies show that 2 trillion galaxies can be observed in the universe, suggesting that there will be more planets with potential life forms. Shostak said: “when you search for and observe aliens, I don’t think aliens will boldly expose their position.”

Scientists have three most commonly used methods for searching for extraterrestrial life. The first method is very simple and clear: “go out and find them!” It’s also one of the most popular methods for science fiction writers, including launching a spaceship to Enceladus, collecting water vapor samples from the surface plume, and looking for potential signs of life.

The third method is to use large space telescopes to observe distant exoplanets. The observation results can detect sufficient evidence and provide scientists with important data about the planet’s atmosphere. The large space telescope here refers to the James Webb Space Telescope, which is expected to be launched in October 2018. It enables astronomers to analyze the spectral information around distant planets, so as to confirm the existence of oxygen or methane in the atmosphere. The above two elements are considered to be the key components of life support on earth. “These methods will help people search for extraterrestrial intelligent life forms,” Shostak said
