Scientists have three most commonly used methods for searching for extraterrestrial life. The third method is to use large space telescopes to observe distant exoplanets. The observation results can detect sufficient evidence and provide scientists with important data about the planet’s atmosphere. The large space telescope here refers to the James Webb Space Telescope, which is expected to be launched in October 2018. It enables astronomers to analyze the spectral information around distant planets, so as to confirm the existence of oxygen or methane in the atmosphere.
