Voyager will enter Oort in more than 500 years. Can it cross safely?

At its current speed of 17 km / s, Voyager one will take at least 520 years to reach the Oort cloud. Voyager 2, with a speed of 15.4 km / s, will enter the Oort cloud in 580 years. Voyager’s entry into the Oort nebula is just the beginning. It will take at least 10000 years for Voyager to pass through the entire Oort nebula. It is estimated that the thickness of the Oort nebula is one light year.

The word “light year” is an unattainable distance for the current technology of human beings. Some people may worry that there are so many small objects in the Oort nebula, will Voyager collide with them and stop in the solar system? Although there are hundreds of millions of celestial bodies in the Oort cloud, the density there is very low. Far less than the density of objects in the Kuiper belt.

When the Voyager spacecraft passes through the Kuiper belt, it does not collide with small objects, so it is less likely to be impacted when it passes through the Oort nebula. Of course, this is not a 100% concept event. There is still an extremely small probability that it will collide with the small objects in it. However, the probability that all the two spaceships will be destroyed is almost zero. Even if one of them is unfortunately destroyed by the small objects, the other can finally get out of the Oort nebula and enter the real extragalactic space, and then move forward to the depth of the galaxy In.
