What is the outcome of the 2700 princes of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom?

In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Wang was a high title. In the Ming Dynasty, in addition to the Zhu clan, no matter how great the credit was, it could only be granted to the Duke.

When the Qing Dynasty just entered the pass, in order to win over Wu Sangui and other traitors to work for him, the Qing government granted three Han two character kings, and San Francisco was eliminated in Kangxi.

“King” has become the supreme glory of Han people. During the period of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, Zeng Guofan made great contributions to the annihilation of the Taiping army. However, the Qing government did not even give him a Duke who was a “Duke, uncle and son”, but only granted him a first-class brave marquis.

On the contrary, the peasant rebellion against the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom was a different sight. Would you rather have a seed? At the beginning of the uprising, when Yong’an was established, Hong Xiuquan, king of heaven, immediately granted six kings: Yang Xiuqing, king of the East, Xiao Chaogui, king of the west, Feng Yunshan, king of the south, Wei Changhui, king of the north, and Shi Dakai, king of the wing.

In the later period of the kingdom of heaven, it was a bit chaotic that the princes went everywhere in the city of Tianjing. According to Huang Wenying, the captured king of Zhao, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom had more than 2700 kings at its most! What are the choices of these princes, big and small, when the kingdom of heaven is in turmoil and facing failure?

Self harm is always lamentable

Among the first righteous kings of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, Xiao Chaogui, the Western King, and Feng Yunshan, the southern king, died early in the war. During the civil strife in Tianjing, Yang Xiuqing, the king of the East, was killed by Wei Changhui, the king of the north.

Before long, the northern king and the Yan King Qin Rigang who took part in the incident were executed by Hong Xiuquan, the heavenly king who used a knife to kill people. In the Tianjing incident, the kings closed their doors to kill each other. The fortress was most easily broken from the inside, and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom came to an end.

In the later period, Li Shixian, the great general who led the party, came to an unbearable end. Li Shixian is the cousin of Li Xiucheng. When Tianjing was surrounded, he advised his cousin Li Xiucheng not to be stupid and loyal.

After the fall of Tianjing, Li Shixian retreated all the way from southern Jiangsu to Zhangzhou. After the defeat, he dived into the army of Wang Haiyang, king of Kang.

At first, Wang Haiyang was respectful to him. A few days later, he was afraid that he would be a big official and seize power. He even designed to kill Li Shixian in his sleep. In the end of the country’s destruction, Tianping’s generals are still fighting against each other. Is there any reason why they can’t be defeated?

Lingchi is always cruel

Lingchi is what the people call “a thousand cuts”. Many captured important generals of Taiping army, such as Shi Dakai, king of England, Chen Yucheng, loyal king, Li Xiucheng, King Zun, Lai Wenguang, Lin Fengxiang and Li Kaifang, were executed by the Qing government.

Among them, Yiwang Shida is the most leisurely. In the execution ground that was cut to pieces by thousands of people, he also dissuaded his subordinates who were tortured together. However, Tsai Fu, who was constantly groaning, said, “why can’t you stand the pain at this moment?” After hearing this, Zeng stopped moaning until he died. Li Kaifang was the most unruly.

When he was captured in the tent of Seng gelinqin, the Mongol king of the Qing Dynasty, Li Kaifang took a seat under the tent and wanted to drink wine and vegetables. He didn’t pay for Seng gelinqin. When Xianfu died in Beijing, he and his men said to the audience in a loud voice: “since he came out of Tianjing, he is invincible. The Qing demon is vulnerable, and its destruction is just around the corner.”.

When the enemy tortured Li Kaifang and seven of his subordinates to death, they all raised their heads and raised their eyebrows and looked around angrily, showing their contempt for the enemy and their heroic spirit.

It’s always helpless to be captured

Will loyal King Li Xiucheng surrender after being captured? There has been a lot of controversy in the field of history for many years. 14 years ago, the author wrote a little article “know Li Xiucheng” (published in the third edition of Wanxi daily on February 12, 2000) for analysis and research. The conclusion is that even if Li Xiucheng didn’t cheat to surrender, at least he accompanied the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom to the last moment of the destruction of Tianjing City. As far as this is concerned, he is worthy of the title of “loyal king” and is worthy of respect.

After Li Xiucheng was captured, in the face of Zeng Guoquan’s frantic stabbing, he denounced Zeng Guoquan: “Zeng Jiu (Zeng Guoquan’s nickname), we are in charge of our own affairs. Are you crazy if you succeed by chance today?” After he was captured, he wrote tens of thousands of words in his cage, the Autobiography of loyal King Li Xiucheng. No matter what the mentality and purpose, at least, he left a valuable history for the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.

The whereabouts are also mysterious

After the failure of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the whereabouts of Yang Fuqing, the assistant king of the Qing Dynasty, has always been a mental illness of the Qing government. After Huzhou broke through the encirclement, Yang Fuqing broke away from the brigade and sneaked into Shanghai alone to buy guns for the rest of the Taiping army. It was not until 1874, ten years after the fall of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, that he was killed in Fujian by the former Taiping army generals.

His confession only admitted that he was “running around in an attempt to restore the country”, but he was firm about how to do it. In recent years, relevant historical materials reveal that Yang Fuqing probably went to the United States from Shanghai or Fujian during his time. Today’s secret organization “Hongmen” among overseas Chinese has a lot to do with the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.

Zhang Zongyu, an important general of the Nien army who was granted the title of King Liang by the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, is also missing. As for the whereabouts of Zhang Zongyu, there are different historical records and different opinions in the field of history.

Li Hongzhang, the direct commander of the war, reported to the Qing court that “Zhang Zongyu drowned”. “The draft of Qing history” records: “the battle of Chiping, the whole army was defeated. He led more than ten cyclists to break through the encirclement, and they didn’t know where to end up. ” In recent years, some scholars have found the last whereabouts of Zhang Zongyu, the king of Liang Dynasty, in kongjiazhuang, Cangxian County, Hebei Province by analyzing and visiting posterity. He died of illness after living in seclusion in the countryside for many years. Until his death, he revealed his true identity.
