Why are scientists not happy when human beings find “the second earth”

Whenever you look up at the starry sky in the dead of night, I don’t know if you will also feel a kind of loneliness belonging to human beings.

In this vast universe, it seems that there is only human beings who can be called intelligent civilization. It’s like that there is only one child in a huge dark room. When human beings have been helpless, we have tried our best to find another so-called civilized partner, hoping to find other signs of life in this lonely universe.

For many years, scientists have been exploring the “second earth”. After unremitting exploration, they finally found this “second earth”, namely kepler-452b. Kepler-452b, an exoplanet, was discovered and released by NASA’s Kepler space telescope in 2015. The planet ranks sixth in terms of earth similarity.

Kepler-452 B is an earth like planet in the constellation Cygnus, 1400 light-years away from the earth. It revolves around a star very similar to the sun. It orbits kepler-452, which is a G-type main sequence star with the sun. The planet’s orbit is in the habitable zone of the star, but slightly farther from the sun than the earth. It takes 385 days to go round, three cycles longer than the earth’s cycle.

Jon Jenkins of NASA Ames Research Center said:

“We would like to directly measure its mass, so as to be able to detect its density. This is an important clue to analyze whether it is a rocky planet, a water rich planet or a gaseous planet.”

Researchers rely on statistics to show that kepler-452b has a 50% probability of earth like composition. Based on its size, orbit and main star, the planet is the closest to earth ever found.

Kepler-452b is located in the habitable zone of stars, and its surface can maintain the existence of liquid water. Water is considered to be an important element in the evolution of life, so kepler-452b is the most likely exoplanet to hide aliens.

Shostak and Jenkins stressed that kepler-452b was of real importance because it would indicate the widespread presence of exoplanets outside the solar system. Before the discovery of kepler-452b, scientists did not find habitable zones in solar like star systems. They hope that statistics show that many similar planets surround other stars, but they did not use modern astronomical equipment for observation. The discovery of Kepler 452b suggests that similar exoplanets will be discovered in the near future.

Unlike remote exoplanets, kepler-452b is a moderately distant planet with an atmosphere or potential extraterrestrial life signals. It is reported that there are about 10 billion earth like planets in the Milky way.

However, this should be good news for us, but scientists are very happy and worried at the same time, because these situations indicate that life may be born, and it also happens that alien civilization may have been born on this planet, so once alien civilization exists, the emergence of human beings may bring disaster.

Even our solar system is only a small part of it. Curiosity should be the instinct of all life, but there is a folk saying “Curiosity Kills the cat”, which is the most extreme expression of the strong desire of creatures to explore the unknown.
