There are eight planets in the solar system. If you ask which planet is most similar to the earth, I believe many people will answer that it is Venus. Yes, Venus and earth are called sister planets. There are so many similarities between them. In terms of location, Venus and the earth are in the same habitable zone, which also has the possibility of becoming a planet of life.

But later, I believe many friends know that scientists have focused on Mars, constantly launching various probes to Mars, and landing on Mars for exploration and research. After more than half a century of exploration and Research on Mars, we now have a very rich understanding of Mars.

At this time, many people will have such a question: in the last century, why did scientists give up landing to explore Venus? Some people may think that Venus has no exploration value for scientists. Is that really the case? In fact, things are far from as simple as we think.

Scientists have launched dozens of detectors to Venus, which is enough to show that the value of Venus in the minds of scientists is very high. Since we gave up exploring Venus and focused on Mars, it’s not that scientists don’t want to explore Venus, but because the data sent back by the probe shows that human science and technology are not able to land and explore Venus, because the environment of Venus is too bad.

Venus, as the sister planet of the earth, has some conditions to breed life. According to normal logic, the ecological environment of such a planet should be much similar to that of the earth. Even if it can not reach the beautiful ecosystem of the earth, it should be much stronger than that of Mars.


But when the probe reached the orbit of Venus, the results were unexpected. It turns out that Venus is a purgatory planet. Whether it is the atmosphere or the surface of Venus, the environment is so bad that we are afraid. Venus has a very thick atmospheric conductive layer, 95% of which is carbon dioxide.

The ultra-high carbon dioxide makes the greenhouse effect of Venus very serious. Not only does the atmosphere form a layer of acid rain, but also the surface temperature is as high as 460 ℃. Moreover, due to the thick atmosphere of Venus and the blocking of acid rain layer, it is difficult for the detector to see more detailed surface conditions of Venus through the thick atmosphere.

If you want to know the surface of Venus, you need to send a probe to land on Venus, but in the face of the thick atmosphere, it is not easy to land. In the last century, the Soviet Union’s Venus probe made many attempts to log in, but most of them failed. Even if a probe barely landed, the time it existed on the surface of Venus was very short, and the longest one was less than two hours.


Although the probe landed on Venus for a short time, it still sent us some information about the surface of Venus. Through these Venus data, we can see a purgatory like surface of Venus, with erupting volcanoes everywhere, and a large amount of volcanic ash filling the atmosphere of Venus. And the super high temperature also makes the surface of Venus a fiery purgatory scene.

The first pass for the probe to land on Venus is the thick atmosphere. However, Venus atmosphere has very strong lightning, which will be destroyed if it is not careful. In addition to lightning, Venus has a large layer of acid rain in its atmosphere, which can also damage the detector. Even if it passes through the atmosphere and lands on the surface, it will face 90 times of high pressure and 460 degrees centigrade high temperature.

In such a bad Venus environment, it is difficult for human detectors to detect. At most, we can only detect the atmosphere of Venus. But it’s not worth it for human beings. So, in the end, scientists had to give up the landing exploration of Venus and focus on Mars.

So have scientists given up Venus and won’t explore it in the future? Of course not. As we said earlier, Venus is very important to scientists, even far more important than Venus. The main reason for this is that in addition to the harsh environment, Venus also has many extraordinary mysterious phenomena. For example, Venus is the only planet in the solar system that has no magnetic field.


You know, Venus is also an earth like planet, and the center of the planet may also have the same iron nickel core as the earth’s core. Since it is known as the sister planet of the earth, it should also have a very strong magnetic field. Moreover, the atmosphere of Venus is very thick. In the early days of Venus, such a thick atmosphere could not have been formed without an atmosphere.

But now the real situation of the detection is that Venus does not have a magnetic field, so is it inborn without a magnetic field, or later disappeared for some reason? Scientists think that the second possibility is more likely. If Venus’ magnetic field disappears later, what causes the magnetic field to disappear?

In addition to the absence of magnetic field, the rotation direction of Mars is also very unique. The rotation direction of the other seven planets is the same as that of the earth. So when we stand on other planets, you can see that the sun rises in the East and falls in the West. However, the rotation of Venus is opposite to that of other planets. If you stand on the surface of Venus, you will see the wonderful phenomenon of the sun rising from west to East.


Is the opposite property of Venus’ rotation formed naturally? Scientists don’t think it’s possible that the solar system formed an early star cloud, and the nebula itself has a high rotational speed. So the rotation direction of the planets formed later should be the same as that of the nebula, which we can see from the other seven planets and many asteroids.

But the rotation direction of Venus is opposite. What’s the matter? Scientists believe that it may be a significant change that caused Venus to rotate in the opposite direction. And the fact that Venus has become such a purgatory planet may also be related to a major accident. So what happened to Venus that it is now? Is it a natural disaster in the universe or some other possible man-made disaster?
