Why does the sun evolve into a red giant, harming the entire solar system? It has endured for a long time

The sun is the central celestial body of the solar system, accounting for 99.86% of the total mass of the solar system. The sun is superior to all the celestial bodies in the solar system. The eight planets, asteroids, meteors, comets, interstellar dust and so on in the solar system revolve around the sun.

Because of the sun, the other existence of the solar system can be continued. The sun is the patron saint of other celestial bodies.

But the sun, like many stars, is not immortal. After spending its life, it will “die” and expand itself into a red giant, thus destroying everything in the solar system and harming the whole solar system!

But in fact, we should understand the sun. From its life, we can find that it has endured for a long time.

Why do you say that? Let’s start with the evolution of the sun.

The sun was born in the distant past. Although the evolution of the sun’s life is far away for us, we can’t witness the scene of the sun’s life.

But it is gratifying that there are many stars in our galaxy at different stages of evolution, and scientists can infer the evolution of the sun by observing these stars.

How did the sun evolve?

Scientists confirmed that the sun was born about 4.57 billion years ago through computer models of stellar evolution and early nuclear synthesis.

Before the sun was born, there was only chaos and stillness in the space of the solar system at that time. A ball of material with a diameter of two light years has been quietly rotating around the center of the galaxy for more than 8 billion years.

This is a piece of debris left by the explosion of an ancient star, most of which is hydrogen, with a small amount of heavy elements scattered in it.

All of a sudden, a strong flash of light lit up the spherical cloud cluster. It was dozens of light years ago that a blue giant ended its short life in the form of a supernova explosion.

Under the huge light pressure, the material on one side of the spherical cloud began to move, pushing each other toward the center, making the whole cloud slowly rotate.

The matter of the “two poles” of the globular Nebula converges to the “equator” under the action of centrifugal force and gravity. About 100 million years later, the disk-shaped cloud disk formed.

The more hydrogen is gathered in the middle, the more attractive it is.

Eventually, more than 99% of the original cloud mass is captured by the core. Under high temperature and heavy pressure, hydrogen fusion begins, and the sun forms in a collapsed cloud of hydrogen molecules.

Since scientists have observed the death of other sun like stars, they know when and how the sun is heading towards the end of its life.

The sun is a yellow dwarf. It is estimated that the main sequence lifetime of the yellow dwarf is about 10 billion years. At present, the sun is 4.57 billion years old.

In the next 5 billion years, the yellow dwarf will consume hydrogen through internal fusion.

When it’s running out of hydrogen, the yellow dwarf’s core will re fuse helium into carbon, and the temperature will rise.

The yellow dwarf will break away from the main sequence stage, its outer layer will begin to expand, and will expand to multiple times of its original volume, becoming a red giant with a diameter of 100 million kilometers.

For mercury and Venus, which are closest to the sun, they will be engulfed by red giant stars, which is a huge disaster for the earth.

Although the earth can escape the fate of being engulfed, in the next billion years, the red giant’s energy radiation will be exported in large quantities, leading to the boiling of the earth, and all life on the earth will no longer exist.

At this time, if human beings want to survive, they must find other habitable planets before the disaster, and immigrate to the past.

After that, the red giant will contract due to the reaction force on its helium core, and the temperature will be higher and higher, and finally the helium will fuse into carbon.

In a few billion years, the red giant will ignite the gas, form a nebula, become a white dwarf, and finally become a black dwarf, ending all stages of his life.

This is the life of the sun, from formation to extinction. Xiaobian believes that since its birth, the sun has given and endured the entire solar system 10 billion years before ending itself, and its demise is inevitable.
