With the continuous research of biotechnology, a very popular biological topic “cloning technology” appeared 20 years ago. I believe many friends have often heard of this technology in the past, but careful friends will find that in recent years, there are very few topics about cloning technology, which has almost disappeared. Why? Are scientists no longer exploring cloning? Why has cloning disappeared in recent years? Now let’s listen to the explanation of scientists.
Cloning is a process of using biotechnology to produce offspring from asexual reproduction with the same gene as the original individual. Scientists call the process of artificial genetic manipulation of animal reproduction cloning. This biotechnology is called cloning technology, which means asexual reproduction. In 1997, cloning technology became a hot topic. Many people imagined that human civilization would enter the era of cloning.
However, the good times do not last long. Dolly sheep, who was only 6 years old, died of pneumonia soon after it appeared. This event sounded an alarm for scientists. Scientists found that Dolly sheep’s life span is very short and the aging rate is very fast. In addition to this, there are various disadvantages in Dolly’s body, such as gene mutation, gene damage and so on. These are the insurmountable points.
It can be seen that cloning technology is not as perfect as people think. It has many defects and is also fatal. As like as two peas, cloning technology is not a simple copy and paste. Even if we can reproduce a identical organ, it may not have any corresponding function. It may be just a display. Therefore, the cloning technology gradually faded out of people’s topic.
So do scientists give up the research and exploration of cloning technology? Of course not. In fact, scientists are exploring cloning technology more deeply. The reason why scientists attach so much importance to cloning technology is that it is related to human health and longevity. We all know that although human beings are the overlord of the earth and intelligent life, their life span is not long, and various diseases will appear in their life. Many diseases will take people’s lives.
Some life-threatening diseases often occur in organs, such as liver, lung, heart and other organs. In general, once there is a huge lesion in the organ, the only way to survive is to change the organ. However, it’s not easy to change organs. We need an organ with a high degree of matching with ourselves, otherwise it will produce huge rejection and eventually fail.
But even the twins’ organs do not have 100% perfect matching, so after organ replacement, they still need to take long-term drugs to maintain, thus affecting their life expectancy. And it’s very hard to find an organ that matches you very well, so scientists thought of cloning technology. If the cloning technology is mature, we can use our own somatic cells to clone an organ. This organ and our own organ can be almost perfect. In this way, the rejection reaction after organ transplantation will be very small, or even no rejection. This is really the perfect organ transplantation.
Once the organ can be cloned perfectly through cloning technology, it will be a good news for human beings, and countless patients who need to change their organs will recover. And the cost will be very low. It’s very expensive to change an organ now, but once the cloning technology is mature, the cost of cloning an organ will be very low. Even the ordinary people can afford it, and they will not be poor all their lives because of illness.
Moreover, once the cloning technology is mature, it can also greatly increase the help of human beings. The main reason why human beings have birth, aging and death is that their organs are aging and dying. If we can achieve renewal by changing organs, even if we can not achieve immortality, it should be no problem to extend human life several times.
At the same time, cloning technology also has an important application, that is to revive some ancient creatures, such as dinosaurs. Some living cells frozen in some ancient fossils or permafrost may have certain activity. If there is cloning technology, we can use these cells to achieve biological breeding, so that these ancient creatures disappeared for countless years can be revived.
It can be seen that cloning technology is an epoch-making biotechnology for human civilization, and scientists have been actively exploring and studying it. Of course, it’s not easy to realize perfect cloning technology. We need to know enough about life. Before human beings have completely cracked the code of life, cloning technology is difficult to achieve perfection.
An imperfect cloning technology is unable to create perfect organs or life. Naturally cloned organs or animals will have very big defects. I believe that with the continuous progress of human science and technology, the cloning technology in the future will shine brilliantly, but at that time, we can not do something against ethics, such as human cloning.
Cloning technology is a double-edged sword. It can benefit human beings, keep them away from diseases, increase their life expectancy and enrich the species of life on earth. However, if it is used in some illegal places, it will also bring unpredictable disaster to human civilization. So this technology should be used with caution. Of course, the perfect cloning technology is still far away from us. We can only enjoy this technology for future generations.
